The Opportunity
We are looking for a consultant to support our Environmental Physics and Wind team within the Technical Specialist Services portfolio. From global weather patterns to neighbourhood scale urban microclimates, human experience is governed by, and reliant upon, fluid forces and motions. Our Environmental Physics and Wind team comprises specialists in fluid dynamics, climate analysis, wind engineering, electro‑magnetic compatibility and thermal comfort. Our team's expertise is centred on the assessment of how these varied factors translate to human‑scale impacts in the built environment. A large proportion of our work focuses on the control of indoor thermal environments, design of urban spaces to improve livability and assessment of wind impacts on structures. However, we also use our core skills to support Arup in a diverse range of areas, such as the design of hydraulic structures, electromagnetic systems, high speed rail assets and offshore wind farms. We routinely deliver cross‑disciplinary projects with other engineers and specialists in Arup.
In this role you will:
- Undertake analysis and design on behalf of clients or in collaboration with other teams within Arup.
- Use analytical and numerical methods such as CFD and dynamic thermal modelling as well as wind tunnel modelling and other forms of testing to inform the design process.
- Interact with architects, developers and engineers on projects in diverse sectors including buildings, energy, industry and transport.

Is this role right for you?
We’re looking for a candidate in the early stages of their career with:
- A degree qualification, ideally in engineering science, mechanical, civil, or aeronautical engineering (2:1/60% or higher or equivalent) but other degree courses with an emphasis on mathematics and modelling will also be considered.
- Previous experience in a related consulting role or relevant post‑graduate research.
- A strong interest in fluid dynamics and how it impacts the built environment.
- A strong interest in numerical, statistical and/or physical modelling.
