Joining Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for over 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world. Our Energy Geotechnics team plays a key role in supporting the global energy transition, delivering innovative ground engineering solutions for offshore wind, transmission infrastructure, carbon capture and storage (CCS), hydrogen storage, and other major energy developments. Bringing together engineering geologists, geophysicists, geotechnical engineers and digital specialists, we help clients understand complex ground conditions and reduce project risk from concept through to construction.

The Opportunity: In this role, you will provide engineering geological interpretation for offshore energy projects, with a particular focus on marine site characterisation and geological ground modelling for offshore wind foundations, inter-array cables, export cables and interconnector developments. Working across the full project lifecycle, you will contribute to technically challenging projects from site investigation planning through to design and delivery.

This is a highly collaborative and client-facing role, requiring strong technical capability, commercial awareness and excellent communication skills. You will work alongside multidisciplinary teams across Arup and collaborate with major energy developers, survey contractors, research institutions and industry partners on projects across the globe. You will have the opportunity to deepen your expertise in offshore ground engineering, develop your project leadership skills and contribute to innovative solutions that support the transition to a low-carbon future.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective - in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning - to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you? We are keen to hear from individuals with a strong interest in offshore wind and marine geoscience, who enjoy solving complex ground engineering challenges and working collaboratively with clients and project teams.

We are looking for people who:

  • Have demonstrable experience in Quaternary geology of global continental shelves, with a strong understanding of ground condition risk and its impact on offshore energy projects.
  • Possess detailed knowledge of integrated geological ground modelling and geophysical interpretation for offshore wind, interconnector, CCS, hydrogen storage or similar energy developments.
  • Have experience with geophysical and geotechnical data acquisition programmes, including survey scoping, management and interpretation, with knowledge of depth conversion methodologies and uncertainty assessment.
  • Are proficient in industry-standard software such as S&P Global Kingdom (or equivalent), ArcGIS Pro (or equivalent) and Microsoft Office, with experience in geophysical processing considered advantageous.
  • Are Chartered, or working towards Chartered status with a relevant professional institution, and are able to demonstrate strong commercial awareness, project leadership capability and a collaborative approach to mentoring and knowledge sharing.

What we offer you: At Arup, we care about each member's success, so we can grow together. Guided by our values, we provide an attractive total reward package that recognises the contribution of each of our members to our shared success. As well as competitive, fair and equitable pay, we offer a career in which all of our members can belong, grow and thrive - through benefits that support health and wellbeing, a wide range of learning opportunities and many possibilities to have an impact through the work they do.

Different people, shared values: Arup is an equal opportunity employer that actively promotes and nurtures a diverse and inclusive workforce. We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, regardless of age (within legal limits), gender identity or expression, marital status, disability, neurotype or mental health, race or ethnicity, faith or belief, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, and whether you're pregnant or on family leave. We are an open environment that embraces diverse experiences, perspectives, and ideas - this drives our excellence.
