Arup is seeking a senior Digital Energy Market Lead to accelerate our growth in the UK and strengthen our relationships with senior decision makers across the energy market – particularly in Arup’s priority markets of Transmission & Distribution, Molecular Solutions, and Renewables.

This is a strategic hire for a proven consulting leader who can combine deep sector insight, digital transformation expertise and commercial ambition with Arup’s technical credibility, multidisciplinary reach, and strong values. The role is designed for someone who has already built trusted C-suite and senior executive relationships in the energy sector and now wants the autonomy to shape and grow a distinctive advisory business. It will particularly appeal to partners or senior directors from consulting or advisory firms who want to move beyond generic transformation consulting and build a business backed by world‑class engineering, design, digital and sustainability capability.

We are looking for a passionate, technically, and commercially strong leader with experience as a consultant, or in digital advisory practices, and a strong external presence. You will have deep understanding of the energy domain and will be responsible for shaping digital advisory service propositions and leading projects across the lifecycle from strategy, design, delivery and handover into operation. This is a critical role for our business, taking on technical and business leadership of this fundamental area. You will be a senior member of the digital energy team, leading this service offering, developing deep capabilities, managing bidding, workstreams and commissions for external and internal clients or partners. A key part of your remit will be to secure new and repeat work for the business via both internal contacts and external clients.

This role reports into the Global Digital Energy Leader (Simon Evans) and sits within the national Digital Services Portfolio which is a centre of excellence in Arup that combines advanced digital, advisory, technology, analytics, and product expertise to add new value for clients. You will work closely Arup’s electricity networks business, our virtual digital energy community and the other regional digital energy leaders.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

The candidate will need in-depth knowledge of the energy market, and a detailed understanding of the digital energy opportunities within it to help our clients address whole‑life issues - including optimising system operation, project creation and development and customer engagement. Key experience will include leading digital energy projects in a consulting setting and managing teams, along with a strong perspective on the role of digital, data and AI, that are at a range of maturities in our clients’ businesses. You will be familiar, and ideally active, within industry‑leading digital energy agendas and programmes nationally and internationally, and should stay current with industry trends and developments in digital energy and be able to share insights and best practices within our organisation.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Extensive experience in the consulting or technology industry demonstrating deep understanding of data, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Recent experience and current understanding of the state of knowledge and thought relating to digital, data, AI, technology expertise, combined with project and change management for digital energy.
  • Proven track record of business development, winning and delivering high quality advisory work for clients in digital energy.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, form and maintain senior level relationships based on competency and trust particularly around Chief Data / Digital Officers.
  • Active, within industry‑leading digital energy agendas and programmes nationally and internationally.
  • Established network or relationships with digital energy solution vendors.
