Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world. We work with clients to plan, build, integrate and maintain a wide variety of civil infrastructure, from bridges to reservoirs, from metro tunnels to off-shore wind farms. Our technical teams address every aspect of civil engineering design, working in close collaboration with the full breadth of Arup's other design and engineering disciplines.

We're looking for talented Civil Engineers at mid and senior levels to join our Energy, Water and Site Development teams across Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff and Nottingham. Whether you're ready to lead projects or further develop your expertise, you'll be part of a supportive, collaborative environment where your ideas, experience and unique perspective truly matter.

In water you would be involved in many of our major frameworks with water utility companies helping to provide reliable, potable water and to safely discharge treated effluent to the environment or helping our national clients overcome the challenges of maintaining existing aging assets and protecting natural ecosystems, whilst solving the increased pressures from climate change.

In energy you would be involved in our major energy projects including the Great Grid Upgrade which is critical to ensuring the de-carbonisation of our electrical supply and achieving net zero for the UK.

In site development you will be working across a range of schemes from supporting local property developers through to national and international projects.

At Arup, sustainability is central to everything we do. You'll be empowered to influence projects from the outset, helping clients make informed decisions that balance technical excellence, environmental responsibility and long-term value. We also embrace digital innovation to improve efficiency, enhance collaboration and create more rewarding ways of working.

We're looking for people who bring a blend of technical expertise, curiosity and collaboration. You'll thrive in this role if you have:

  • Experience designing and delivering civil engineering solutions, with a strong technical foundation and a passion for high-quality outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant design standards, legislation and industry guidance, with the ability to apply them effectively in project delivery.
  • An understanding of statutory approval processes, including planning, stakeholder engagement and technical approvals.

We're looking for the following qualifications, attributes, and skills:

  • Suitable qualification in Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with a relevant institution (e.g. ICE), or working towards professional registration.
  • Experience appropriate to the grade applied for, with a track record of supporting or leading the design and delivery of civil engineering projects.
  • Experience in one or more of the Water, Energy, or Site Development sectors.
  • Able to lead projects, workstreams, or teams, coordinating activities to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Passionate about supporting and developing others through coaching, mentoring, and people leadership.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues.
  • Experience using industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, InfoDrainage, or MicroDrainage.
  • Strong digital skills and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

At Arup, we care about each member's success, so we can grow together. Guided by our values, we provide an attractive total reward package that recognises the contribution of each of our members to our shared success. As well as competitive, fair and equitable pay, we offer a career in which all of our members can belong, grow and thrive - through benefits that support health and wellbeing, a wide range of learning opportunities and many possibilities to have an impact through the work they do.

We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, regardless of age, gender identity or expression, marital status, disability, neurotype or mental health, race or ethnicity, faith or belief, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, and whether you're pregnant or on family leave.
