We have an opportunity for a chartered Mechanical Engineer who is looking for technically challenging work on cutting‑edge projects, to become a permanent member of our creative, friendly Building Engineering Team in London. You will work on some of the most exciting and innovative buildings across the world with leading architects. The team is currently involved in projects world‑wide from feasibility stage through to practical completion. Current and recent projects include commercial developments such as 50 Fenchurch Street, 60 Gracechurch Street, 65 Gresham Street; and a variety of projects including large refurbishments/extensions such as 1 Spitalfields and the British Library; and other areas such as residential projects and broadcast media, all with high sustainability targets and developing and delivering decarbonisation strategies. The focus of our work is split between new build developments and retrofit/refurbishment projects, given the drive towards both increasing sustainable solutions and supporting our clients to reduce the carbon impact of their buildings. Responsibilities
- Leading design and delivery of building services systems with experience of all aspects of your discipline
- Developing system strategies, including collaborating with project team and relevant parties such as architects, cost consultants, project managers and specialist disciplines
- Leading the comfort and thermal analysis of buildings and spaces
- Leading the spatial and technical co‑ordination of building services and integration into the design
- Managing the production of models, drawings, reports and specifications to budgets and deadlines
- Supervising and coordinating the work of others, including other disciplines and in‑house specialists
- Planning projects/activities and resources required e.g. time, people and skills
- Supporting project directors in the overall delivery of projects
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced members of the team
Qualifications
You are an enthusiastic engineer who enjoys working collaboratively in multi‑professional design teams and taking responsibility for projects from inception to completion to achieve outstanding results.
You will have several years of post‑chartership experience in the field of Building Services Engineering and have a broad range of hands‑on experience in systems, installations and project sectors. You actively support the performance, work and development of others, providing guidance, training, and motivational and directional feedback.
- Strong technical knowledge and an interest in sustainable building design in terms of both energy and carbon, challenging yourself and the rest of the design team to achieve optimum project outcomes
- Experience in designing mechanical services such as heating, cooling, ventilation etc. on a wide range of buildings, from inception to completion
- Experience leading teams on multi‑disciplinary projects and working as part of a larger team
- Creative and inquisitive attitude with an interest and awareness of building design beyond your own discipline, integrating requirements into holistically coordinated solutions
- Strong commercial and contract awareness, and experience in predicting, planning and managing resource requirements and change to achieve financial targets
- Experience in using and leading the use of energy modelling software, ideally IES
- Interest in developing and integrating digital tools into workflows to streamline ways of working
