Overview
In this role you will support water companies to develop resilient, evidence-based plans addressing future water needs. You’ll work within Arup’s Water Resources team to integrate hydrology, environmental assessment, and regulatory inputs into planning studies that guide drought resilience, supply-demand balance, and investment priorities. You will lead defined technical work packages, collaborate with diverse experts, and communicate findings to clients and regulators. Responsibilities
- Lead defined technical work packages in water resources planning
- Develop strategy and supply-demand balance assessments
- Conduct drought resilience planning and climate change scenario testing
- Perform water resources modelling and data analysis
- Prepare option appraisal and best-value planning outputs
- Incorporate environmental and regulatory assessment inputs (SEA, HRA, WFD)
- Produce clear technical reports and present to clients, workshops, and regulatory submissions
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including economics, engineering and digital delivery
- Support regional planning studies and major water resources programmes
- Engage with clients and stakeholders to inform decision-making and planning evidence
Key requirements
- Experience in water resources planning, water company planning, hydrology, environmental assessment or related discipline
- A degree, or equivalent experience, in water resources, civil/environmental engineering, geography, environmental science, hydrology or related subject
- Understanding of WRMPs, Drought Plans, supply-demand balance assessment and resilience planning
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills with experience analyzing technical datasets
- Ability to prepare clear technical reports and communicate complex information simply
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
