Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. Through our work, we make a positive difference in the world.

Decarbonization can apply to a nation, a region, a city, a district, an organization, an infrastructure asset, a building or a product. We work with our clients to help them understand and minimize their impacts by preparing baselines and net zero strategies and targets, developing whole life cycle reduction pathways and supporting implementation. This can involve devising new policies, innovative business models, introducing new technology, training and cultural programmes, to accelerate and manage the complexity presented by the transition.

Shaped by our engineering heritage and informed by our wide range of complementary technical skills, we offer rigorous environmental assessments and management practice to inform and communicate a clear understanding of the environmental issues and opportunities.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an ensured, passionate and adaptable Carbon & Climate Consultant to join our London-based Climate team. You will have an interest in different types of data exploration, including through the development/use of digital tools. In this role, you will be working as part of a multidisciplinary Climate Change team promoting clients in the property, infrastructure and government sectors, among others. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills across a variety of technical opportunities and market areas, and you will be boosted to grow your technical specialism and broader consultancy skills under the guidance of colleagues and seniors working across decarbonisation, climate risk and resilience, and ESG.

You will be involved in business development and work winning, including contributing to bids and proposals. You will be a core member of project delivery teams and will have the opportunity to help shape project methodologies, participate in client meetings and presentations, assist project management, and to guide the work of junior colleagues in your areas of expertise.

Your day-to-day tasks may include research and data collection tasks to build a carbon/climate evidence base for projects, delivery of GHG assessments according to industry standards and best practices, emissions modelling, projections and target-setting.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for people with the following skills –

  1. You will hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Environmental Science, Engineering, etc.). A postgraduate degree would be advantageous.
  2. You will be working towards a relevant chartership from a professional institution, such as Chartered Environmentalist, Chartered Engineer, etc.
  3. You should demonstrate excellent organisational skills, oral and written presentation skills, and quantitative data scrutiny. An appreciation of wider sustainability and climate change consulting would be desirable.
  4. An appreciation of relevant frameworks, guidance and data sets would be advantageous, such as the GHG Protocol, SBTi, PAS2080, TCFD, and UK climate projections.
  5. Suitable candidates will have knowledge across key areas of our Climate consulting practice. Your expertise may include GHG accounting, decarbonisation study, target setting and strategy development, climate data exploration, climate risk and vulnerability assessment, and/or adaptation planning.
