The Opportunity
In support of our journey towards becoming a recognised global leader in offshore wind, Arup currently has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Director to join our established and growing offshore wind team. You will provide techno‑commercial leadership of teams pursuing, bidding and delivering major projects for our clients, with a focus on early phase Owner’s Engineering (OE) and project development services for offshore wind where a deep understanding of our client’s challenges and objectives is critical to your success. The role will have a particular focus on winning and delivering projects for new and emerging clients.
As a competence centre within Arup for offshore wind engineering, our highly motivated and skilled Bristol and London‑based technical teams support projects across the UK, Europe, Asia and the Americas, working with our local teams in the market to support many of the major developers in the global wind industry. The role will be based in either our Bristol or London office.
Is this role right for you?
- A strong external‑market‑facing instinct with a drive to proactively grow Arup’s OE and project development services with offshore wind clients in the UK and Europe, working with our wider key Energy account teams and offshore wind market leaders across Arup to ensure a robust pipeline of major offshore wind project opportunities is identified, cultivated and converted.
- The successful candidate will be expected to routinely connect with senior leaders in client organisations through regular meetings, Teams calls and conference attendance.
- Extensive and successful experience acting as a Bid Director for OE services in offshore wind in the UK and/or Europe.
- You will be able to demonstrate a detailed understanding of our clients’ requirements and challenges in this space, and an ability to marshal bid teams to produce compelling tenders that promote Arup’s quality, added value and competitive differentiation while managing risk.
- Extensive Project Director‑level experience in the delivery of major offshore wind OE‑related scopes and design commissions.
- Ability to demonstrate broad knowledge and practical experience across all relevant technical disciplines combined with strong project governance and client communication skills.
- A collaborative and positive approach to working with Arup’s offshore wind senior technical leads (up to Director level), leveraging appropriate subject matter experts to support business development, tendering and ultimately successful delivery of projects.
- A strategic mindset that can balance near‑term project priorities and pressures with ‘over the horizon’ thinking and proactive planning.
- This will include contributing to the annual strategic planning cycles within Arup’s Renewables business, identifying opportunities, threats and investment needs.
- A ‘seller‑doer’ mindset comfortable with winning work and delivering it.
- It is anticipated that the successful individual will be able to maintain a personal billability between 50‑60% with their remaining time focused on business development and work winning.
- Experience in floating wind technologies is considered advantageous and beyond offshore wind design and project delivery scopes, it is anticipated that the successful candidate will have broad interests across the energy transition and will proactively seek opportunities to leverage their broader skills, network and experiences to support Arup teams across our wide range of activities in the clean energy space.
