The Opportunity
We are seeking a professional who will play a key role in delivering surface water management, water-sensitive urban design, and drainage solutions across the entire project procurement lifecycle. This individual should also be enthusiastic about supporting the growth of these opportunities and expanding our business within the Midlands and Southwest regions. Technical responsibilities will range from advising clients on strategy and policy to providing design input for masterplans, feasibility studies, concept development, and detailed design through to implementation. The ideal candidate will be committed to helping the team develop our presence in the surface water and pluvial space, building a hub within the Birmingham office to support regional delivery. This includes contributing technical expertise to identify and secure new opportunities, as well as mentoring junior team members and supporting their technical delivery on projects.

Essential skills and experience
- University degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., engineering, geography, flood risk, etc.) with minimum 3 years postgraduate drainage and flood risk infrastructure experience.
- Working towards becoming an incorporated or chartered professional with a relevant organisation (e.g., ICE).
- A desire to lead with support, work collaboratively but independently, and inspire others to produce high-quality outcomes for our clients.
- Experience in delivering Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), traditional drainage and foul drainage at various stages of the design process is preferred.
- Experience in SuDS and drainage design requirements and standards (e.g., DMRB, design & construction guidance for the sewage sector and CIRIA guidance).
- Experience in using InfoDrainage hydraulic modelling tool and design development software such as Civil 3D.
- Experience in leading technically on tasks with support from a senior lead.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate with clients and other teams within Arup independently.
Nice to have
- Willing to support with other tasks around project work including bid submissions and developing opportunities and tools.
- Experience of delivering drainage design in aviation, highway, rail and for other critical infrastructure projects.
- Experience in delivering drainage and SuDS as part of large multi-disciplinary projects.
- Commercial understanding of project delivery.
