Our award‑winning landscape architecture practice is growing. Teams are linked through a global network. In the UK we have offices in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield, Winchester/Southampton and we work with international offices in Brisbane, Hong Kong, New York and Sydney. The team includes landscape designers and planners working on landscape assessment and strategy, LVIA, green infrastructure strategies, concept design, master‑planning, detailed design, landscape management, visualisations and 3‑D modelling. We collaborate with other Arup disciplines including urban design, ecology, town planning, digital technology, engineering, cost consulting and project management. We have a diverse workload of high‑profile projects across the UK and internationally, ranging from environmental infrastructure design, major transportation projects to restoration, town‑centre regeneration, streetscape design and green buildings.
We’re looking for an Associate to join our team in our new, ground‑breaking offices in central Birmingham, built for hybrid working. You will lead on projects, collaborating with an unrivalled community of experts, who will support and nurture your growth. This role will require you to lead on business development activities for landscape planning across the region and support the professional development of others. A key focus will be on leading and writing LVIAs, including supporting Development Consent Orders for major projects, ensuring good design is embedded from the outset.
Requirements and Skills
- Experience and knowledge of the Energy Sector and large‑scale linear infrastructure projects.
- A degree‑level qualification in Landscape Architecture or Landscape Management.
- CMLI accreditation with good knowledge of professional ethics and the ethical framework.
- A very good understanding of the UK planning system and how our work relates to it.
- Demonstrable professional experience of landscape architecture (typically 10+ years), particularly working in multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Strong team leadership, collaboration and project and commercial management skills and experience.
- Confident and articulate written communication.
- Strong track record in building relationships with clients.
- Experience of and interest in stakeholder engagement.
- Experience of managing projects and fee budgets, or a desire to develop the necessary skills.
- A strong working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS/Pro, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
- Focus on detail delivery and strong report‑writing skills are essential.
Desirable Skills and Knowledge
- Specific sector experience in areas such as water, transport, commercial development, urban regeneration, residential, education, health, historic buildings and landscape planning strategic policy.
- Public inquiry experience.
