We are looking for a Highway Engineer to join our Transport team in the North East. Based in either Newcastle or Stockton, the successful candidate will work within the Transport team delivering a range of projects including major National Highways schemes as well as urban highway improvements incorporating Local Authority, public realm public transport and travel schemes.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of transport infrastructure across the region through the application of their core technical skills, including:
- Alignment design
- Pavement design
- Surface water drainage design
- Preparation of Contract drawings and documents
- Building intelligent BIM models to ensure seamless inter-disciplinary design coordination
Our team in the North East also lead delivery of these transport infrastructure projects, which provides a range of opportunities for you to take on Client facing roles for those with established skills or allowing the development of your project management and commercial skills, facilitating long-term opportunities for career development.
As a Highway Engineer or Senior Highway Engineer at Arup, you will have the opportunity to:
- Lead the design and project management of diverse transportation projects
- Develop and review drawings, reports, calculations, bills of quantities (BOQs), and specifications, ensuring compliance with contract requirements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients, ensuring effective communication and collaboration
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and external consultants to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards
- Prepare bid documents for high-profile projects, working within tight deadlines
A role in the Transport team will include opportunities to input into design and coordination, often liaising with other multi-disciplinary contributors to projects. You will deliver projects to the technical standards in a timely manner. You will have experience in planning and design of road schemes including feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed design, statutory processes, preparation of NEC contract documents. Experience of NEC Project Management is also preferred, although not essential.
We are seeking engineers across a range of experience levels to be based in our Newcastle and Stockton Offices. We are interested in speaking with individuals at both Engineer and Senior Engineer Level who possess the following qualifications and skills:
- HND, degree and/or masters in relevant field
- Experience with industry standard software e.g. Civils 3D, AutoCAD, AutoTrack, PDS Line, microdrainage and in the design and delivery of small and large scale highway and infrastructure projects
- Ability to articulate complex issues, write reports, present effectively and manage client relationships
- Professionally qualified or working towards professional qualification with a relevant institution
- Enthusiasm for a career in transport, including the delivery of highways projects through their entire life cycle, underpinned by a knowledge and understanding of the sector and work
