The Opportunity
We have a need and an opportunity for a MEP Director who is chartered, looking to lead multi-disciplinary design teams with a focus on Sport projects. In this role you shall be expected to lead MEP design and delivery on our complex sport projects and play a lead role in multi-disciplinary design teams. Develop relationships with our key clients and collaborators, both in project roles and as part of Sport-focussed Business Development. Assist with promotion of Arup's profile within the Sport Sector. Work with Arup Sport Business leadership to identify and pursue opportunities in both the EIMEA region and beyond.
Team Context
Our team is London and Southampton based, with a multidisciplinary team across several sectors including Sport, Arts & Culture, Commercial Property, Government Property, Education, Sustainability and Technology with projects in London, wider UK and internationally. The growth of the Sport Sector work is a core aim in the team, already working across multiple Sport projects across the EIMEA region.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Director / Bid Director on multiple Sport projects and opportunities.
- Technical supervision of structural design of major projects.
- Lead development and implementation of digital tools in the delivery of complex projects.
- Act as key client contact across multiple projects.
- Responsible and accountable for commercial performance.
- Manage B2B programme with sport clients and collaborators.
- Track and report on leads and opportunities.
- Business specific bidding support (business specific template proposal CV, project sheets, and scope).
- Represent Arup at events and conferences.
- Take lead role in the MEP discipline promoting technical leadership and mentorship.
- Responsible for the appraisals, performance management and career development of specific staff within the MEP team.
- Play a key role in developing discipline culture and wider team motivation.

We are looking to speak to people who are seeking an Associate Director MEP Engineer to join our leadership team who can demonstrate a track record of high-quality project delivery with a particular focus on Sport (Stadiums and Arenas etc.). As a member of the team in a leadership position, you will have strong communication, organisational and technical skills. You will be a team player capable of imparting knowledge and experience to other members of the team to facilitate their growth and development. This role will have a strong commercial and client-facing focus, representing Arup externally and delivering strategic business goals. Generating new business will be central to the role, and previous experience of Business Development within the Sport Business area will be welcomed.
Skills and Capabilities
Essential:- Degree qualified and a chartered Mechanical or Electrical engineer.
- Focused on design excellence, and creative design skills.
- Experience of leading large-scale and complex projects and working with leading Architectural practices.
- An existing portfolio of Sport (Stadia/Arena) projects.
- Project Management and commercial skills commensurate with leading major projects.
- Proven track record of business development and client management.
- Ability to take a lead role in the preparation and presentation of bids.
- Track record of delivering thought leadership within the industry.
- Possess a good working knowledge of current Sport specific Codes and Regulations (including Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds).
