Our Level 6 Degree Apprenticeships allow you to study for industry-recognised qualifications whilst earning a competitive salary. As an apprentice, you will study with a training provider, such as a university, and combine this experience with real responsibilities in the workplace. Your study pattern could be day or block release, or via distance learning, depending on the course that you enrol on. A dedicated mentor will guide you through your personal and professional development. Level 6 Degree Apprenticeships have a typical duration of 3–6 years, during which you will attain both a professional and academic qualification to further your career. Our apprentices are employed on a permanent basis, so you will continue to progress with Arup once you have completed your course.
The Opportunity: Data Science Apprenticeship — An opportunity to join our Transport Digital team in London as a Data Science Apprentice. Our team uses leading digital techniques to analyse large, complex datasets and enhance productivity across engineering disciplines. As an apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience with modern data science tools, work on real-world transport and infrastructure challenges, and contribute to impactful digital solutions.
What You Will Work On:
- Machine Learning & AI: Develop, train, and deploy predictive models for regression, classification, clustering, time-series forecasting, and computer vision. Work with libraries such as Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch, and apply explainable AI techniques to support transparent, evidence-based decision-making.
- Data Pipelines & Engineering: Build and maintain reliable data pipelines using Python, SQL, and cloud technologies (AWS / Azure). Collect, clean, and validate large datasets from a range of sources including sensors, databases, and APIs.
- Data Analysis: Apply statistical and analytical techniques to uncover trends, patterns, and insights. Tackle real industry problems such as remote-sensing structural health assessment, asset-condition monitoring for predictive maintenance, and infrastructure risk modelling.
- Visualization & Communication: Create clear, compelling visualisations and dashboards to communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. You will also have opportunities to develop full-stack web applications that deliver AI-driven insights.
- Collaboration & Agile Delivery: Work in multidisciplinary teams, participate in sprints, code reviews, and demos. Contribute to project documentation and share knowledge with peers.
We are looking for apprentices who are curious and ready to evolve how they think and work. We are looking for candidates with A Levels at ABB or above including Mathematics and Computer Science (or equivalent) or will have completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship in the relevant area.
