Our Level 4 Higher Apprenticeships allow you to work toward a higher‑education qualification while gaining real responsibility on live projects. At this level, you will pursue a qualification equivalent to the first year of a university degree or a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Civil Engineering. You will study with a higher‑education provider through day release, block release, or blended learning, depending on the programme structure. You will develop deeper problem‑solving and analytical skills, applying engineering theory directly in the workplace. This reflects the focus of Level 4 provision, which includes core topics such as problem solving, statistics, programming, systems analysis and technical engineering knowledge aligned to industry standards. A dedicated mentor will support you throughout your learning and professional development. Our apprentices are employed on a permanent basis from day one, with clear progression routes available after completion.

As a Level 4 Civil Engineering Higher Apprentice, you will be part of multidisciplinary teams delivering a broad range of infrastructure projects, from highways and bridges to drainage, flood defences, earthworks, water treatment works, and major transport schemes. At Level 4, you will begin undertaking more advanced technical tasks, including:

  • Preparing supervised design calculations and engineering assessments.
  • Creating and managing digital models using CAD/BIM tools.
  • Supporting analysis of civil engineering systems and data.
  • Contributing to technical reports, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Assisting with site visits, surveys and preliminary technical evaluations.
  • Applying engineering principles learned through your higher‑education studies.

Your work will help deliver effective and professional services for a wide range of prominent clients. As part of your apprenticeship, you will study toward a Level 4 Civil Engineering qualification (e.g. HNC or equivalent) with one of our higher‑education partner institutions. Completion of the apprenticeship supports progression toward professional recognition with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), including EngTech MICE, and provides a strong foundation for further academic and professional advancement.

We are looking for apprentices who are curious and ready to evolve how they think and work. We are looking for candidates with a minimum of:

  • Two A levels (including Maths or a relevant science/technical subject), or A Level 3 qualification in Engineering (such as a BTEC, T Level or equivalent).
  • Strong GCSE results in Maths (Grade B/6), English and Science are also desirable.

A passion for sustainable development and creating a better world is key. We are looking for critical thinkers who embrace new ideas and challenge the status quo. You should be able to start this opportunity in September 2026.

Advert closing date: 11th April 2026. Please note, in the event of high applicant volume, this role may be closed ahead of the advertised closing date. Early application is recommended.

Please note, candidates are permitted to submit only one application per recruitment cycle. We recommend reviewing all available opportunities and selecting the role and location(s) that best align with your skills and interests before applying. Please note we are unable to offer Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship for this role. Therefore, you must ensure that you have resided in the UK for at least 3 years prior to the start of the programme and are eligible to work in the UK for the duration of the apprenticeship opportunity without our sponsorship in order for your application to be considered.
