As an Electrical Building Services Engineer you will work within a team of engineers to design all aspects of building services systems. Sustainability underpins everything we do at Arup and therefore your focus will be on delivering efficient, low energy and low carbon designs. You will work with renewable and emerging technologies and enjoy the chance to work on projects in a wide range of sectors including education, healthcare, aviation, commercial, and data centres.
At Arup, you will take advantage of Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology. BIM enables us to design buildings collaboratively using 3D computer models. Whether you are designing a net zero carbon school/college, or the next super hospital, you will be working within multidisciplinary teams to optimise the competing requirements of a design and shape the buildings of the future. We are constantly looking to develop the way we work; advances in software, computer modelling and virtual reality are rapidly changing the building design process.
You will support a variety of different work, including:
- Production of engineering drawings and sketches, including 3D or 2D computer drawings
- Production of Building Information Models (BIM)
- Undertaking virtual design reviews
- Preparation of simple engineering calculations
- Contributing to solutions for design challenges
- Taking part in design meetings, site visits, presentations and workshops
- Helping with the administration of projects
Electrical Building Services Engineers apply their specialist skills and expertise to provide safe electrical distribution in buildings. Driving the design of the electrical building systems across a range of project scales and building types, with a focus on developing, encouraging and recommending sustainable building design solutions on projects, pushing the boundaries for design.
Responsibilities
- Design power distribution, lighting controls, grounding and lightning protection systems with respect to buildings projects
- Short circuit, overcurrent coordination and maximum demand studies
- Lighting photometric calculations
- Assign circuitry for Power and Lighting devices
- Technical report writing
- Work on projects using Revit MEP
- Contribute to the development of reports and electrical calculations
- Work with people from other disciplines and/or vendors to gain knowledge on new subjects
Skills and Qualifications
A Levels with a minimum Grade C or above including Mathematics and Physical Science (or equivalent) or will have completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship as a Building Services Design Technician.
