Job description - the role

On behalf of Arup, we are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a 12 month contract that can be based in Cardiff, Birmingham, Bristol, or Nottingham.
Candidate Profile: Key accountabilities, skills & experience
Purpose of the role: Aviation Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) design team, delivering Mechanical building services and specialist aircraft systems for complex aviation facilities. This role involves leading Mechanical design, supporting multidisciplinary project teams, and guiding junior engineers across a range of aviation projects.
What you’ll do: Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to the design of mechanical building services including HVAC, ventilation, chilled water, heating systems, compressed air and specialist process ventilation.
- Develop design packages from concept through detailed design, ensuring compliance with Arup methodologies, industry standards, and client requirements.
- Interface with multidisciplinary teams including structural, electrical, and digital engineering teams to deliver coordinated building systems for complex engineering environments.
- Undertake site visits, surveys, inspections, and technical assurance activities during construction and commissioning phases.
- Prepare engineering documentation including calculations, specifications, technical reports, schedules, and equipment selections.
The skills you’ll need:
- Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
- Knowledge of mechanical building systems design, including HVAC, cooling systems, process ventilation and building services integration.
- Proven experience delivering multi-disciplinary engineering projects in technical or highly regulated environments.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, perform mechanical calculations, and review MEP design packages.
