On behalf of Arup, we are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a 12 month contract that can be based in Cardiff, Birmingham, Bristol, or Nottingham.

Candidate Profile:

Key accountabilities, skills & experience

Purpose of the role: Aviation Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) design team, delivering electrical building services and specialist aircraft systems for complex aviation facilities. This role involves leading electrical design, supporting multidisciplinary project teams, and guiding junior engineers across a range of aviation projects.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead mechanical design and coordination for aviation and MRO facilities.
  • Deliver design across project stages: feasibility, concept, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, stakeholders, and internal multidisciplinary teams.
  • Produce and review mechanical specifications, reports, and technical drawings.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Support business development through technical input.
  • Apply knowledge of aviation mechanical systems, including:
    • Mass air start systems
    • Aircraft fuel venting
    • Aircraft hydraulic systems
    • Compressed air and specialist gas systems
  • Provide leadership across MEP teams on local, national and international aviation projects.

The skills you’ll need:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
  • Experience within the aviation sector, ideally with MRO facility design.
  • Strong track record of delivering complex engineering projects.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and work with external sub-consultants.
  • Strong knowledge of sector legislation, regulatory requirements and design standards.
  • Interest in sustainable building design, energy efficiency, and carbon reduction strategies.
