Job description - the role

On behalf of Arup, we are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer - Design Coordinator for a 24 month contract that can be based in London, Birmingham, Manchester or Leeds (hybrid).
Candidate Profile:
Key accountabilities, skills & experience
Purpose of the role: You will be responsible for leading the development/integration of enabling works design (including haul roads & compounds and associated earthworks, drainage and fencing) and structures design (tower foundations, bridges and culverts) into a design work package. This role will require interface with the wider AAJV design team (who are developing standard designs), and Lot 2 Partners.
What you'll do:
- Act as the key technical design interface between National Grid, WSP, and Lot 2 Partners, fostering strong stakeholder relationships and confidence in AAJV's delivery capability.
- Lead the development and implementation of route-wide design and assurance strategies across design work packages.
- Collaborate with technical leads and wider design teams to coordinate and integrate route-wide solutions into design packages.
- Drive the development of standardised design solutions to support efficient and consistent project delivery.
- Work closely with GI Leads to define and develop structured, deliverable design work packages.
- Ensure effective multidisciplinary coordination to deliver fully integrated, compliant, and buildable design solutions.
- Manage design changes to the baseline scheme, ensuring impacts are assessed, incorporated where required, and challenged where appropriate.
- Ensure design solutions meet DCO requirements while maintaining flexibility to support project delivery.
- Support the Package Design Manager in delivering technical outputs to programme, quality, stakeholder, and client expectations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, industry standards, and client governance requirements.
The skills you'll need:
- Degree in Engineering, or related discipline.
- Proven experience in developing designs for enabling works.
- Experience working across design, environmental and consenting workstreams.
- Demonstrated ability to operate in a multi-partner environment with competing priorities.
- Strong client-facing experience, with ability to influence and build relationships at senior levels.
- Ability to align technical delivery to broader programme goals.
- Experience in detailed design and technical assurance.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
