Artsy is seeking a Principal Product Manager to lead our customer engagement and retention product team, called Emerald, who are responsible for the full transaction lifecycle - turning purchase moments into long‑term engagement through fulfillment, post‑purchase experiences, retention, and repeat marketplace participation. The Emerald team defines how transactional moments become the foundation for trust, loyalty, and long‑term engagement. They own a wide range of product surfaces including checkout, shipping, our collector hub, and all touch points associated with the post‑purchase experiences. The Emerald team is also the primary driver for Artsy’s peer‑to‑peer (P2P) marketplace evolution.
As the product manager you will help define the incentives, experiences and systems that enable buyers and sellers to transact confidently - balancing marketplace dynamics, operational complexity, and a high‑touch, luxury experience. The way users buy, receive, resell, and re‑engage with art fundamentally shapes how they experience Artsy as a marketplace, so this role is ideal for a strategic product leader who can think holistically across the funnel, design for user centric marketplaces, and connect transactional excellence to long‑term customer value.
What you’ll own at Artsy
- Full‑Funnel Product Strategy: Lead the end‑to‑end transaction lifecycle, from purchase intent through checkout, fulfillment, post‑purchase engagement, re‑engagement, and repeat marketplace participation. Design experiences that turn transactions into long‑term value, driving conversion, retention, activation, lifetime value, and resale activity.
- Marketplace Growth & Incentives: Shape Artsy’s evolving marketplace model, including traditional gallery sales and emerging peer‑to‑peer transactions. Build incentives, mechanics, and systems that encourage buyers and sellers to transact confidently - and return.
- Scalable Systems & Operations: Build flexible, scalable systems to support increasingly complex transaction models, including international orders, multi‑currency flows, and new seller types. Collaborate with design, engineering, and operations to solve end‑to‑end marketplace challenges, not just isolated funnel steps.
- User‑Centric & Data‑Driven Thinking: Center decisions on buyer and seller needs across the full lifecycle. Use data, research, and experimentation to anticipate friction, optimize conversion and engagement, and validate hypotheses.
- AI & Emerging Technology: Partner with data and engineering teams to explore AI and tech solutions that enhance transactions, fulfillment, and post‑purchase experiences, balancing short‑term gains with long‑term scalability.
Why this role matters
Emerald sits at the intersection of trust, commerce, and marketplace growth. The experiences this team builds define whether users feel confident buying, selling, and returning to Artsy. By reframing transactional moments as the beginning of the relationship, not the end, you’ll help unlock higher retention, stronger marketplace liquidity, and the foundation for peer‑to‑peer growth. Your work will directly influence how Artsy evolves from a transactional platform into a trusted, repeat‑use art marketplace.
What we’re looking for
- 6+ years of product management experience with a strong focus on e‑commerce, marketplaces, or consumer products.
- Critical thinking and strong empathy for our users and business partners.
- Proven ability to think holistically across the funnel, connecting conversion, retention, and engagement.
- Experience operating in ambiguous, evolving product spaces where the problem and solution are co‑defined.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, expertise in using data and user insights to inform trade‑offs.
- Demonstrated success designing high‑quality, user‑centric transactional or marketplace experiences.
- Comfort with experimentation, iteration, and learning in complex systems.
- Excellent cross‑functional leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- (Preferred) Experience with two‑sided marketplaces, peer‑to‑peer platforms, or luxury/high‑trust commerce.
- Technical fluency and comfort collaborating with engineering on payments, logistics, and marketplace infrastructure.
What Success Looks Like
- First 3 Months: Develop a deep understanding of Artsy’s full customer journey, from purchase through post‑purchase engagement, fulfillment, and repeat marketplace participation. Treat each transaction as the start of a long‑term relationship, not the end of the funnel. Understand marketplace dynamics and current Emerald experiences, identifying key friction points and opportunities to re‑center the team around the customer journey. Build strong relationships across product, design, engineering, operations, and data to align on shared goals for trust, retention, and engagement. Clarify Emerald’s role within the broader funnel, define near‑term strategic priorities, and reimagine what the purchase‑to‑post‑purchase experience could and should look like to drive long‑term value.
- First 6 Months: Ship meaningful improvements across checkout, fulfillment, or post‑purchase experiences with clear impact on trust, engagement, or retention. Establish a clear product direction for P2P marketplace capabilities and incentives. Embed lifecycle thinking into how the team prioritises and measures success.
- Beyond 6 Months: Drive measurable improvements in repeat purchase, seller participation, and marketplace health. Help shape Artsy’s long‑term marketplace strategy and how transactional experiences support growth. Establish Emerald as a model for full‑funnel, lifecycle‑led product thinking.
