Job Summary
Join the BFI’s Fundraising & Enterprise (F&E) Department as a Research Manager and play a key role in driving our fundraising and commercial income strategy. This position will help achieve significant growth in the pipeline of potential supporters and partners, both nationally and internationally.
Job Description
To implement a strategic programme of research activities that supports the F&E team to enable them to meet their income targets. The post holder will be responsible for identifying the appropriate resources for research, using their own initiative in carrying out research and to define new areas of investigation. The key elements of this strategy will be:
- To regularly and proactively identify new potential supporters, collaborators and prospective donors through a range of prospect identification techniques to expand the prospect pool and feed into the prospect allocation and staging process, in the UK and US and in all areas of F&E activities: philanthropy, trusts and public sector grant-making, Higher Education, international training, corporate and business partnerships.
- To prioritise prospects with the capacity to become major donor/grant givers, or large businesses with multi-year partnership potential (six and seven-figure potential).
- In particular, to initiate a proactive piece of research and network mapping of the film and TV sector for the purposes of identifying and prioritising cultivation pipelines; this will be followed by adjacent industries including VR, XR, gaming, etc.
- To be a key player in planning and building a healthy pipeline for a major capital campaign.
- To meet with key stakeholders including Governors and Executive colleagues to ascertain their areas of influence and networks and prioritise cultivation plans in association with relevant F&E team members.
- To provide timely, accurate, detailed and objective-led profiles and biographies on prospective donors, Trusts and Foundations and commercial partners and to oversee the production of briefings for a wide range of events, trips, meetings, providing guidance, feedback and monitoring follow-up as necessary.
Job Requirements
- Significant experience working at a mid to senior level in a research role in either the commercial or charity sector.
- Proven experience of working with a variety of research tools, sources and consultants to inform net worths, biographical information, due diligence, market trends, etc.
- An established understanding of the motivations behind fundraising or arts partnerships.
- Track record of carrying out wealth analyses, with a proactive approach to generating research ideas, identifying prospects and guiding first steps of cultivation with a focus on prospects with significant capacity.
- Excellent knowledge of data protection rules and regulations, including GDPR, in the UK and internationally.
- Experience in working with databases or client management systems to track progress, deliver reports and segment data.
- A proven track record of promoting and supporting diversity and inclusion.
