Job Summary

UK Productions are seeking a highly motivated and self-sufficient Head of Department to manage all wardrobe and costuming requirements for their 2025 pantomime production of Jack & The Beanstalk at Malvern Theatres.

Job Description

As the Head of Department, you will be responsible for ensuring all costumes are fit, altered, and ready for the opening of the production, working with the creative team to ensure the show is of the highest standard. You will oversee the day-to-day running of the wardrobe throughout the production, managing the wardrobe team to ensure all costumes are clean and stage-ready for each performance.

Job Requirements

You will have:

  • Extensive experience (minimum 2 years) working within a theatre wardrobe department at a Costume Supervisor or Head of Department level, or relevant experience, preferably within a theatre costume setting.
  • Experience working on pantomime productions.
  • Working knowledge of fitting theatre costumes, including altering, cleaning, repairing, and provisioning.
  • An understanding of how costumes are worn, and the ability to identify, address, and resolve concerns.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including leadership, collaboration, discretion, and adaptability.
  • An awareness of Health and Safety procedures and their implications in a costume and stage environment.
  • Strong and accurate hand and machine sewing skills.
  • Ability to be creative and resourceful in problem-solving.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience managing a team.

Job Responsibilities

Oversee all costume elements for the production, including maintenance, repairs, and show dressing.

Take responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of all costumes and equipment required by your department.

Create and manage the costume tracks, including quick changes and preset requirements.

Coordinate all costume fittings, alterations, and repairs.

Manage your department, including casual staff and deputies, involving recruitment, scheduling, recording hours, and training.

Attend all rehearsals, show calls, maintenance calls, get-ins, fit-ups, and get-outs as required.

Lead the wardrobe get-in and get-out at the venue, including unpacking and setting up wardrobe spaces.

  • Read and respond to show reports, ensuring all wardrobe notes are actioned.
