Great Show Productions are seeking an experienced and highly collaborative Resident Director to join Come Alive! The Greatest Showman Circus Spectacular.
Working closely with the Resident Choreographer, Circus Coach and the wider resident creative team, the Resident Director will play a key role in delivering, maintaining and protecting the creative vision of the production. This role requires a confident leader with strong communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, and proven experience working in circus or musical theatre environments. The Resident Director will regularly note the show each week, run understudy rehearsals and be present at key moments during the running of the production (for example, recasts).
Job Responsibilities
- Rehearse, maintain and protect the creative direction, storytelling and artistic integrity of the Production, both the pre-show and the main show, in collaboration with the Creative Director.
- Attend rehearsals and performances throughout the run to ensure consistency and creative excellence.
- Lead and support understudy rehearsals, cover runs and recast processes.
- Rehearse new cast members as required.
- Watch and note performances regularly, including all first-time understudy and swing performances.
- Deliver clear, constructive notes to performers and departments.
- Be present in the theatre and attend company warm-ups for a minimum of five days per week.
- Maintain and update all directorial documentation (“bibles”), including video reference materials where appropriate.
- Liaise closely with the Circus Coach, Resident Choreographer, Circus Captains, Company Management, Stage Management, General Management and other departments.
Qualifications / Essential Skills
- Proven experience working in both musicals and immersive theatre.
- Strong understanding of storytelling, direction and performance within large-scale productions.
- Experience working with large ensembles and multi-disciplinary performers, including singers, dancers and circus artists.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise across multiple departments.
- Ability to maintain creative standards while adapting work to new cast members and bodies.
- Confident leadership style with a collaborative and supportive approach.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and unsociable hours.
Desired Skills
- Experience working on productions involving circus or highly physical performance.
- Familiarity with maintaining long-running shows and recast processes.
