Sutton Music Trust seek experienced tutors of Double Bass and Drum Kit to join their pool of tutors. If you are passionate about music education and playing a part in the progression of young musicians, we look forward to hearing from you!

Job Description: Tutors come on board on a self-employed basis. The hourly rate for self-employed tutors is £36.59. This is not a contracted role, but tutors are provided with a self-employed agreement.

To inspire young musicians to develop a lifelong love of music-making and to develop an inclusive, exciting, and stimulating environment for effective musical learning and teaching by:

  • Planning musical experiences that promote progression and demonstrate high expectations, including preparation and entry for graded music exams.
  • Selecting repertoire and resources representing a breadth of different musical styles, cultures, and practitioners with diverse backgrounds.
  • Involving young people in the choices about their learning and musical journey.
  • Using the voice/instrument to demonstrate effectively and with confidence.
  • Being sensitive to the needs of Gifted and Talented learners and those with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities.
  • Differentiating your approach to involve learners of all abilities fully.
  • Providing timely, quality, and developmental feedback.
  • Regularly reflecting on your teaching practice, engaging with lesson observation feedback and CPD, and seeking support when needed.

To evidence the effectiveness of your learning and teaching by:

  • Keeping accurate attendance registers.
  • Defining aspiring and achievable musical goals for students.
  • Keeping notes of planning and lesson preparation.
  • Regularly assessing student progress to inform planning and produce annual progress reports.

Communicate effectively with Sutton Music Trust team members, school music coordinators/subject leaders, and parents/carers on student progress, engagement, and well-being. Supervise children and young people during lessons and, where applicable, rehearsals and concerts (including break times), especially if the equipment is being moved.

Job Requirements:

Double Bass Tutor: We are looking for a teacher of Double Bass to join our pool of tutors. There are approximately 4 hours of teaching available on Saturday mornings at our Cheam Park Farm Music Academy. There may also be opportunities to teach in-school and coach at rehearsals of our outstanding orchestras.

Drum Kit Tutor: We are looking for Drum Kit teachers to join our pool of tutors. There may also be opportunities to teach in-school, at our out-of-hours Music Academy, and in-school, leading workshops and Whole Class Djembe and Samba. The ability to also teach Guitar is desirable.
