The award-winning homelessness charity is seeking someone with high levels of financial literacy, with the ability to be both detailed-orientated and take a strategic view when needed.
We are looking for an ambitious and energetic individual to take on the role of Head of Finance & Operations. As the HR lead within the organisation, the ideal candidate will have tact, discretion and empathy, with ideas on how best to support our small and hard-working team and the ability to have difficult conversations if required.
The Head of Finance & Operations is a member of the Senior Management Team, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organisation and finances, ensuring best practice, good governance and legal compliance across all aspects of Streetwise Opera’s work. They work closely with the Chief Executive on strategic planning and, along with the rest of the Senior Management Team, input into the direction of the organisation’s artistic activity.
Salary: £40,800 per annum.
Contract: Permanent, full-time.
Hours: 35 hours per week. Core hours are 9:30am – 5:30pm.
Location: Hybrid, two days per week from our office in Shoreditch, and from home.

Job Requirements
- Experience of managing budgets and/or bookkeeping using QuickBooks or similar accounting software
- Experience of producing financial reports, budgets and cashflows
- Knowledge of good HR practice
- Demonstrable organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, multi-task and work well under pressure
- Tact, diplomacy and discretion
- Outstanding spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to take concise and clear meeting minutes
- An understanding of how to work effectively with a Board of Directors / Trustees
- An understanding of the statutory requirements of running a charity / charity governance
- An understanding of effective line management
- A passion and understanding of the performing arts and how they deliver direct social impact
- An understanding of the issues facing those who have experienced homelessness, and the ability to empathise and engage with Streetwise Opera performers
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and manage, with the CEO, sound planning procedures for all organisational activity.
- Oversee negotiation and contracting of all major production/project personnel, and provide general support to productions/projects as needed.
- Be responsible for the day-to-day financial management of the charity, overseeing bookkeeping, monthly payroll (outsourced), payment runs and managing the bank accounts.
- Prepare quarterly management accounts, cashflows and finance reports for Board meetings.
- Produce and monitor the annual budget in consultation with the CEO and budget holders.
- Manage core expenditure.
- With the CEO, work with the Treasurer and Independent Examiners to prepare and finalise annual accounts, Theatre Tax Relief claims and corporation tax returns.
- Prepare financial information to assist with funding applications and reporting to stakeholders.
