Job Summary

Refugee theatre company is excited to be recruiting for a Head of Community Engagement (maternity cover). We are looking for a confident team leader with a passion for bold and brave work with young people facing structural inequality.

Refugee theatre company is recruiting for a Head of Community Engagement (maternity cover). We seek a confident leader passionate about bold work with young people facing inequality. We value applicants who share our commitment to using the arts to amplify refugee narratives. This role offers creative leadership with significant impact within our company and on our members.

The main purpose is to lead our community engagement strategy, focusing on expanding employment opportunities for early career artists and facilitators from refugee backgrounds. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing a small Community Engagement team delivering projects for newly arrived refugee youth aged 16-25
  • Leading an Artist Development programme for 18-25 year olds
  • Leading a Facilitation Training programme for 18-25 year olds

We encourage applications from individuals with lived experience of the asylum system, recognizing the barriers faced by refugee artists and practitioners.

Job Requirements

  • 4+ years of project management experience in arts, charity, or community settings, including staff supervision, strategy development, and budgeting
  • Ability to design high-quality creative projects emphasizing co-creation and collaboration with young people
  • Experience in designing and delivering training for youth, peer leaders, or early career artists
  • Experience working with marginalized communities in participatory or applied arts settings
  • Strong creative background with innovative performance development skills
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable with online and in-person collaboration
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with youth, staff, volunteers, and trustees
  • Capability to manage a busy workload responsively
  • Advanced safeguarding training for children and adults at risk
