Job Summary
BYMT is seeking new Board Members to join the organisation at a thrilling time, as we settle into our new home in Leeds, launch a new website and embark on our 21st Season of new musicals in high profile venues across the UK.
Job Description
BYMT are committed to creating an inclusive culture in all our activities. We are keen to hear from a broad range of people, especially those with an enthusiasm for creating engagement opportunities for young people from all backgrounds; a love of new work, especially in the musicals sector, would be warmly welcome. We value diverse lived experiences and are committed to expanding our Board to better reflect the varied perspectives of the young people we support. We particularly encourage applications from individuals from global majority communities, as well as those with lived experience of disability or neurodiversity, who are currently underrepresented in our sector.
As a number of the current Trustees come to the end their terms, we need to revitalize the Board with potentially 4 new Trustees. We are particularly seeking Trustees with skills and experience across these areas:
- Yorkshire based, with knowledge of the local arts ecology
- A qualified accountant or proven experience in financial management
- HR / Marketing / PR experience
- An Environmental Champion, to take up the role of Board Lead for Environmental Responsibility
- Arts Education – experience within formal education, ideally at secondary level or above
- An arts employee, working within an Arts Council NPO context
New Trustees are given induction and support and previous experience on a board is not a necessity.
Job Requirements
- Engagement in the values and ambitions of BYMT
- Connection and commitment to the mission and how to evolve the success of the Company
- Attendance at 4 Board meetings a year, in person or online
- Support at events where possible, in particular productions
- Potential contact with the senior management between meetings, if appropriate to your skill set and experience
- Commitment for three years, followed by up to another two three-year terms, as appropriate
- Ability to put the interests of the charity at the heart of all decision making
- A belief in the importance of youth voice informing the direction of the Company
- A collaborative, supportive and clear-headed person willing to challenge and ask questions and make recommendations to the Board
Job Responsibilities
Statutory duties include:
- To contribute actively to the Board of Trustees\’ role in giving strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
- To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
- To ensure that the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its governing document
- To ensure the organisation uses its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects
- To safeguard the good name and values of the organization
- To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organization
- To ensure the financial stability of the organization
- To protect and manage the property of the charity and to ensure the proper investment of the charity\’s funds
- Appoint the chief executive and monitor their performance
