Job Summary
With actor and The Traitors US host Alan Cumming as our Artistic Director, exciting productions and fresh creative energy, there’s plenty happening here - and we’re looking for a Head of Operations and Health & Safety to help keep it all running smoothly.
Job Description
At Pitlochry Festival Theatre, bold ideas and big ambitions need someone who can make things happen behind the scenes.
Set within an eleven-acre campus in beautiful Highland Perthshire, this is a hands-on role with real variety. Our home is an 11-acre campus with a 538-seat Auditorium, a 172-seat Studio, an outdoor Amphitheatre, workshops, rehearsal rooms and the Explorers Garden. More than 100,000 people visit every year. You'll keep all of it running safely, smoothly and within budget, helping create the conditions in which our people can do their best work and our audiences can enjoy every visit.
The role coordinates IT provision, oversees health and safety compliance and controls the associated operational costs. This is a hands-on role working with colleagues, suppliers and contractors to resolve problems, prevent disruption and develop plans for the future of the organisation.
You might come from facilities management, estates, operations or health and safety, in the arts or well beyond them.
This is a permanent full time position, 35 hours per week. The salary is £42,000 - £45,000 depending on experience.
Closing Date: 5.00PM on 30th October 2026.
Job Requirements
- IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent health and safety training, with practical experience applying it to risk assessments, contractor safety and building compliance.
- Working knowledge of workplace health and safety, fire precautions and building-related statutory checks, with the judgement to seek specialist advice where required.
- Practical experience managing buildings, facilities and planned and reactive maintenance, ideally in an occupied public-facing venue.
- Experience supervising contractors and suppliers, checking work and keeping clear maintenance and compliance records.
- Ability to manage operational budgets, obtain value from contracts and identify costs before they become pressures.
- Confidence coordinating external IT support and resolving routine service issues without needing to be an IT specialist.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with a calm, practical approach to urgent problems and competing priorities.
Job Responsibilities
- Inspect Pitlochry Festival Theatre's buildings and grounds regularly, identify defects and take practical action to keep spaces safe and fit for use.
- Maintain constructive relationships with neighbours on matters affecting the site and its upkeep.
- Coordinate the operational application of data protection requirements within the facilities and IT remit, escalating specialist GDPR matters through the appropriate PFT lead.
- Escalate significant outages, data security concerns and decisions requiring specialist technical advice through the appropriate Pitlochry Festival Theatre channels.
- Identify repairs, renewals and investment needs and provide practical costed options for approval.
- Support delivery of PFT's Sustainability Strategy through estate, utilities, procurement and maintenance decisions.
