We are seeking a passionate, talented, and experienced operational manager to join our growing team of Gallery Managers. This pivotal role supports the Head of Operations in delivering a world-class visitor experience—welcoming up to 7 million visitors each year.
With the recent redevelopment of the Sainsbury Wing entrance, enhancements to our public realm and visitor amenities, and the creation of a new Supporters' House, Learning Centre, and upcoming Research Centre and Project Domani, this is a uniquely exciting time to become part of our team.
As a Gallery Manager, you will:
- Lead the day-to-day operational delivery of safety and visitor services, ensuring a seamless and welcoming experience for all visitors.
- Be responsible for real-time deployment of staff and resources, including queue and capacity management.
- Work closely with a wide range of internal teams including Hosts, Security, Fire, Health & Safety, Retail, Catering, Exhibitions, Commercial Services, and Learning.
- Operate independently as the senior manager on-site, ensuring the safety, well-being, and enjoyment of all Gallery users.
- Manage complex, fast-moving situations with resilience, sound judgment, and adaptability.
To thrive in this role, you'll need:
- Proven experience in operational management, ideally in a Gallery, museum, or similar high-footfall public environment.
- Strong working knowledge of fire and security procedures and systems.
- Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.
- The ability to stay calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Availability to work weekends and evenings on a rota basis.
