Yorkshire Young Musicians is seeking a Head to lead the organisation into an exciting phase of development and expansion.
YYM is a Centre for Advanced Training in music, providing exceptional musical education for ambitious young musicians aged 8-18 across the Yorkshire and Humber region.
Through Sunday music schools in Leeds and Hull and its Hub Partner Programme, delivered in partnership with music hubs and services across the region, YYM supports young people with high musical potential to develop their abilities, regardless of their background or financial circumstances.
Most students receive support through the Government's Music and Dance Scheme.
Our programme combines individual tuition, ensembles, musicianship and a wide range of performance and enrichment opportunities, delivered by outstanding professional musicians and tutors.

The Head of Yorkshire Young Musicians provides strategic and operational leadership for YYM as a regional Centre for Advanced Training, ensuring that the organisation delivers high-quality, inclusive advanced music education and enables young musicians aged 8-18 to fulfil their potential, regardless of background or personal circumstances.
This is a key leadership role, balancing strategic development with hands-on operational management.
The Head will act as the principal representative of YYM, working with trustees, staff, families, music hubs, funders and regional partners to extend YYM's reach, strengthen its impact and secure long-term sustainability.

- Job Requirements
- Provide strategic leadership for YYM, working with the Board to deliver the organisation's vision, mission, values and strategic aims.
- Lead the development of clear, inclusive progression pathways across all YYM programmes.
- Oversee the effective running of YYM's Leeds and Hull centres, including Sunday delivery, timetabling, administration and communication with staff, students and families.
- Lead student recruitment.
- Ensure high-quality teaching, learning and student support, including individual learning plans, assessment, progression guidance and quality assurance.
- Develop enrichment and progression opportunities that identify and nurture potential and build confidence and ambition.
- Prepare and monitor budgets, report financial performance and oversee routine financial processes.
- Ensure effective governance and statutory reporting.
- Maintain compliant policies, effective safeguarding arrangements, appropriate risk assessments and a strong focus on student welfare.
- Job Responsibilities
- Professional experience: Significant professional experience in music education and/or the music profession.
Experience of leading and managing staff, teams or programmes.
Experience of developing or overseeing high-quality music education for young people.
- Knowledge: Excellent understanding of the development of young musicians and progression pathways.
Knowledge of safeguarding, inclusion and good practice when working with young people.
- Skills: Excellent leadership, communication and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work collaboratively.
An understanding of financial management, with the ability to prepare, monitor and report on budgets.
Ability to evaluate the quality of music education, and lead change effectively.
- Personal qualities: Able to use initiative, think creatively and respond proactively.
Acts with integrity, professionalism and sound judgement.
Able to build trust, manage sensitive conversations and constructively resolve issues.
