Location: National. Most meetings are hosted virtually. Some travel may be required, typically one in-person meeting per year at an accessible location in the UK.
Role Type: Voluntary position for a fixed term of four years, with the possibility of reappointment for up to four additional years.
Time Commitment: Approximately four (4) days a year, including panel meetings and preparatory work.
Salary & Allowance: This is a voluntary role; UK expenses for in-person meetings are reimbursed. An attendance allowance is available to support freelance/self‑employed and other unwaged panel members, up to £50 per hour or £350 per day, including travel time.
Role Overview: The Accreditation Committee is a subcommittee of Arts Council England’s National Council that oversees the effective management of the Accreditation Scheme for museums and galleries across the UK. As a member you will contribute to decision‑making at regular award panel meetings, provide peer recognition, and support the credibility and reputation of the nationwide scheme.
Responsibilities:
- Attend and contribute to award panel meetings.
- Assist in decision‑making and oversight of the Accreditation Scheme.
- Advocate for Accreditation and recognize achievements of museums and galleries.
- Network with professionals to understand sector outcomes and challenges.
Qualifications:
- Passionate about museums and their impact, with a broad perspective on the range of participating institutions.
- Experience working with museums in Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland.
- Experience working in a national museum or a university museum.
- Encouraged for disabled, D/deaf, neurodivergent people and those from Black, Asian and Ethnically Diverse backgrounds.
