ArtReview, established in 1949, is a leading international contemporary art magazine committed to expanding the reach of contemporary art and exploring its interaction with broader culture. Alongside its sibling publication, ArtReview Asia, the magazine offers diverse content, including criticism, reviews, commentary, artist projects, and special supplements. ArtReview publishes seven issues annually with a global reach across Europe, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific. Its website, artreview.com, provides news, analysis, and multimedia content to an international audience. The organisation also engages audiences through events such as talks, at conferences and partnerships with global brands, art fairs, and nonprofit institutions.

ArtReview is seeking a Senior Digital Editor for its digital operations. This is a full-time position in ArtReview’s editorial department. Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief, you will be responsible for growing traffic and engagement and for creating content across artreview.com as well as the brand’s other social and digital platforms. You will also be responsible for generating editorial podcasts and video strands. You will work with the publication’s commercial and editorial departments to formulate coherent digital strategies for the brand.

Key responsibilities:

  • Managing ArtReview’s digital team.
  • Supporting editorial and commercial teams by developing revenue-generating digital strategies across all platforms.
  • Working with in-house and external writers and other content producers to ensure publication of website content on deadline and within budget.
  • Working as an integrated part of the editorial team with responsibility for managing and upskilling its members in digital content production.
  • Setting goals for engagement, traffic, conversion and time-on-page, and working with the wider editorial team to meet them.
  • Meeting weekly content targets as agreed with the senior editorial team: covering social media posts, online exclusive content, etc.
  • Overseeing the creation of content for the newsletter and growing its audience and engagement.
  • Working with the senior editorial team to ensure that all content on artreview.com adheres to brand guidelines.
  • Maintaining the web archive and managing the upload of content using the in-house CMS.
  • Producing weekly digital progress reports.
  • The digital team offers strategic support to ArtReview’s sister platforms, including MC2 and The Art Journal.

Candidate requirements:

  • An understanding of the challenges of and latest developments in digital journalism and a 360-degree approach to the possibilities of digital media.
  • Experience in reading analytics and building data-driven, commercially astute digital strategies.
  • A passion for social media and an ability to bring stories to life on its platforms, as well as an aptitude for long-term strategic planning and audience development.
  • Experience in the commissioning and management of podcasts and videos.
  • A keen interest in the worlds of contemporary art and culture, attention to news agendas of related fields and an awareness of non-Western art histories.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
