Meta Media Group is seeking an Assistant Editor to join the founding team of
The Art Journal
, a new, digital-first art publication.
Working closely with the Editor and Senior Editor, the Assistant Editor will play a key role in building the publication from the ground up. This is a hands-on role that spans writing, reporting, commissioning support, digital publishing, social strategy and audiovisual initiatives.
This position is ideal for a journalist who is excited by the opportunity to help shape a new platform\’s editorial voice, rethink how the art market is covered, develop original story ideas and work across multiple media formats as part of a growing team.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Editorial & Reporting
- Contribute to the production and editing of high-quality news, features and art‑market reporting in line with the publication\’s editorial standards.
- Pitch original story ideas and contribute to shaping a dynamic editorial agenda.
- Assist the Senior Editor and Editor with commissioning, editing and preparing copy for publication.
- Conduct interviews with artists, collectors, gallerists, industry figures and other relevant contributors in art.
- Ensure accuracy, clarity and brand consistency across all written content.
Digital & Social
- Support the rollout of the publication\’s digital and social-media strategy.
- Help package stories for digital audiences, including writing social headlines, captions and newsletter copy.
- Contribute ideas for Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and other platform-specific storytelling formats.
- Assist in monitoring engagement and performance metrics to inform editorial decisions.
- Support digital publishing and newsletter creation.
Multimedia & Design
- Collaborate with design, photography and audiovisual teams on visual storytelling.
- Help develop scripts, concepts and research for video, audio and multimedia projects.
- Participate in the creation of graphics, cards and visual assets used across digital platforms.
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Work closely with the Editor and Senior Editor to ensure content aligns with the publication\’s mission and tone.
- Collaborate with commercial, design and production colleagues as needed to support digital initiatives.
- Contribute to a creative, ambitious and collaborative newsroom culture.
Skills and Experience
- Strong writing and reporting skills, with experience working in digital journalism.
- A demonstrable interest in contemporary art, culture and the art market.
- Ability to generate original story ideas and work independently to tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with social platforms, digital publishing tools and audience‑focused editorial workflows.
- Interest in or experience with multimedia content creation (video, audio, design) is an advantage.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
