Apollo Painting School is an intensive 3-month summer programme for UK-based emerging painters, delivered online and in person in Manchester, with a one-month residency in Latina (Italy) and a final group exhibition in Sermoneta.
Applications open 20 Feb 2026 and close 15 Mar 2026 (12pm BST). Selection is made by a panel comprised of Chloe Wise, Lenz Geerk, Louise Giovanelli and Dr Ian Hartshorne.
Eligibility
The programme is open for applications from any selfâidentifying emerging artist with a painting practice based in the UK. Applications will not be accepted by artists represented by, or anticipating representation by commercial galleries or preparing for a solo exhibition at a commercial gallery during the duration of the programme. Applicants are welcome from different backgrounds and experience levels. Although there are no educational prerequisites to participate in the programme, applicants must demonstrate in the application that they have been developing a painting practice for at least 3 years. All participants must be 21 years of age by the start of the programme and have a valid passport, and in the case of nonâUK/EU nationals, a valid European travel visa, or the eligibility to acquire one.
What you get
Selected artists take part in an intensive threeâmonth programme combining online sessions with inâperson teaching in Manchester, including lectures, studio feedback, group critiques and guided projects led by a network of art professionals and international artists (with Dr Ian Hartshorne as main tutor). They also receive a oneâmonth residency in Latina, Italy, with studio access and accommodation with local families, designed to support focused work and cultural immersion. The programme ends with a curated group exhibition in Sermoneta (Palazzo Ada Caetani). Many core costs are included, and needsâbased fee support is available.
