About Artizan International

Artizan International is a creative and inclusive charity dedicated to supporting disabled individuals through meaningful creative activities, skills training, work experience and community engagement. We work to ensure everyone regardless of ability can express themselves, grow in confidence, and be part of a thriving creative community.

Role Purpose

The Volunteer Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting Artizan International’s mission by ensuring the effective recruitment, training, placement, and ongoing support of volunteers across all areas of the charity’s work. From creative therapeutic sessions for adults with disabilities to operations in the Artizan Café, Shop, and community outreach events, this role ensures that volunteers are valued, empowered, and well-integrated into the team. By fostering a positive and inclusive volunteer experience, the Volunteer Coordinator helps amplify the charity’s impact, build community engagement, and uphold Artizan’s core values of compassion, dignity, and hope.

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Design and promote volunteer opportunities across all Artizan activities—from café and shop roles to creative sessions, work experience assistance, enrichment placements, events, fundraising and youth clubs
  • Handle volunteer enquiries, applications, interviews, onboarding, DBS checks, and orientation.

Training & Support

  • Deliver or coordinate necessary training (e.g., café protocols, creative facilitation, shop operations).
  • Provide continual support to volunteers, clarify expectations and be their go-to contact.

Volunteer Placement & Deployment

  • Collaborate with project leads to match volunteers appropriately (e.g., café, arts workshops, Organics sessions, school mosaics, Llama Lounge youth club) and ensure all of Artizan's projects have the support they need to deliver our best to our disabled members.
  • Develop and maintain clear role descriptions and responsibilities for each placement.

Motivation & Retention

  • Create a positive volunteer experience through recognition schemes, regular check-ins, feedback sessions, communications/newsletters and volunteer appreciation events.

Communication & Culture Building

  • Ensure effective communication with volunteers, internal teams, and partners through regular effective communications including Newsletters, emails and social media.
  • Advocate for volunteer contributions within Artizan to foster an inclusive, collaborative culture

Administration & Record-Keeping

  • Maintain an up to date volunteer rota and communicate this weekly to project leads
  • Maintain accurate databases of volunteers, distribution lists, availability, training status, DBS status, and hours served.
  • Generate reports on volunteer involvement for staff and trustees
  • Receipt management and budget tracking for volunteer spend

Policy & Compliance

  • Help develop and update volunteer policies, safeguarding procedures, and risk assessments as our organisation grows and our services develop.
  • Ensure practice aligns with Artizan’s culture and current legislation (e.g., data protection, DBS, safeguarding)

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Work alongside the Café Manager, Project Leads (Organics, Creative sessions), Shop team, and Marketing/Finance teams to understand volunteer support needs.
