Artio is a pioneer in early-stage carbon insurance, enabling investment in high-quality projects through data-driven risk models. As the only insurer providing coverage before project activity begins, we de-risk investments to help buyers secure carbon credits at scale and accelerate the transition to net zero. In under two years, we have evolved into a market-leading MGA and Lloyd's coverholder. Backed by capacity from Tokio Marine HCC, Markel, and Apollo, we are already delivering solutions for global institutions. We are redefining the industry by building an AI-native ecosystem, integrating everything from modelling to pricing in-house to deliver a faster, smarter insurance experience.
About the Role
You will lead the development and distribution of insurance solutions that redefine how institutional capital enters the carbon market. Leveraging Artio's AI and data, you'll drive underwriting and business development in tandem. Your role is pivotal, scaling the transformative insurance required to accelerate the global transition to net zero.
What you’ll be doing
- This role offers the opportunity to transform the growing carbon market by integrating AI-driven innovation with sophisticated risk modelling to define the future of specialty insurance.
- Taking the lead on project quotations from inception to completion, collaborating with data and our carbon risk specialists to deliver precise, high-quality outputs.
- Driving the business pipeline as the face of Artio, spending roughly 30% of your time meeting partners and clients face-to-face.
- Interrogating pricing and structures from proprietary risk models to ensure optimal capital allocation and support complex solution design for sophisticated clients.
- You’ll help build a profitable, balanced portfolio by managing exposure across a diverse spread of geographies, project types, and distribution channels.
- Designing new specialty products from scratch, ensuring policy wordings, exclusions, and clauses align with internal risk models.
- You’ll lead reporting and discussions with capacity providers to keep them informed on existing performance and upcoming product innovations.
- Managing critical partnerships across regulatory compliance and technical resources to support the company as we scale.
- Collaborating with internal teams to ensure Artio's AI agents and risk tools remain practical, compliant, and optimized for real-world performance.
What you bring to the table
- You have at least 5 years of experience in insurance underwriting and/or product development, ideally with a background in environmental liability, PRI, credit, property or construction.
- You are incredibly comfortable in Excel/Google Sheets, but want to automate every task you do.
- You have a working knowledge of carbon credits; you don’t need to be an expert but have a base knowledge and are willing to learn more.
- You aren’t afraid of working with data; we’re not looking for a data scientist but someone who can interact with and understand real-time data insights.
- We’re a lean team. We need someone we can trust with sensitive data who can run with a project and deliver results without needing constant oversight.
Nice to haves
- You’ve survived (and enjoyed) the chaos of an early-stage startup.
- Comfortable using AI tools to maximise output.
- Even if you don’t meet all the above requirements, please apply. We look to meet people interested in insurance innovation!
The Package
- Compensation of £90k–£120k (Depending on your experience level).
- We offer a meaningful equity package (Employee Stock Options) so that as we succeed, you do too.
- As we scale, your impact scales with us. You’ll have a direct hand in shaping our culture and benefits, with no ceiling on your growth.
- While we offer a hybrid environment, this specific role emphasises in-person collaboration and travel. We’re looking for someone who thrives on face-to-face interaction and is excited by the prospect of regular international travel.
- We offer unlimited annual leave. We focus on output, not hours tracked. We trust you to manage your own time and rest when you need it.
How we hire
- We try to keep this efficient and respectful of your time.
- A casual conversation with one of the founders to see if our vibes match.
- A practical task focused on underwriting/commercial strategy so we can see how you think.
- A final interview with the founding team to dive deeper.
