Technical Lead – Digital Underwriting

London or Manchester | Hybrid (2 days per week in office) | Permanent

We are currently looking for a Technical Lead to join a global reinsurance and specialty insurance organisation .

You’ll play a central role in the design, development, and delivery of cloud-native solutions that underpin a large-scale Digital Underwriting platform used across the US market.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead the design and development of scalable, secure, and high-performance services for Digital Underwriting use cases, including pricing engines and rule-based workflows.
• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable TypeScript/Node.js code, adhering to best practices.
• Design and deliver cloud-native solutions on Microsoft Azure , with a strong focus on containerised services (AKS) , App Services, and Functions.
• Use Databricks to support data modelling, transformations, analytics, and pricing models.
• Build, manage, and optimise CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.
• Apply cloud security, performance, and cost-optimisation best practices in a regulated environment.
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and raise overall engineering standards.
• Lead and contribute to technical design workshops with product owners, architects, data teams, and business stakeholders.
• Collaborate with globally distributed teams across the UK, US, and Germany .

What We’re Looking For

• Strong commercial experience in software development with hands-on technical leadership .
• Advanced proficiency in TypeScript/Node.js .
• Solid experience delivering solutions on Microsoft Azure .
• Experience with containerised platforms (AKS preferred) .
• Exposure to Databricks or modern data platforms.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and lead by example.
• Confidence running code reviews and technical design discussions.
• Strong communication skills, able to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Insurance or reinsurance experience is beneficial but not required .
