The Role An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Compliance Analyst to join a growing Financial Crime team within the insurance and reinsurance sector.
This role will focus primarily on sanctions compliance, supporting the oversight and enhancement of financial crime controls across multiple regulated entities.
Working within the second line of defence, you will provide expert guidance and challenge to the business, helping to manage sanctions risk, support regulatory compliance, and strengthen the wider Financial Crime Framework.
The role offers significant exposure to underwriting, claims, operations and senior stakeholders, as well as opportunities to contribute to strategic projects and process improvements.
Office: Hybrid working model with three days per week in the office and two days working remotely.
- What you’ll do
- Review and assess sanctions referrals across underwriting, claims and operational functions, providing clear, risk-based guidance and recommendations.
- Support the day-to-day oversight of sanctions screening processes, including the review and escalation of potential matches.
- Act as a key point of contact for sanctions-related queries, delivering practical and commercially focused advice to stakeholders.
- Assess complex sanctions risks, including cross-border exposures, indirect relationships and potential circumvention concerns.
- Support the maintenance, review and enhancement of sanctions policies, procedures and controls.
- Assist with sanctions-related incidents, investigations and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the wider Financial Crime Framework.
- Prepare management information, governance reporting and committee materials relating to sanctions and financial crime risks.
- Monitor regulatory, legal and geopolitical developments, translating emerging risks into practical business guidance.
- Support assurance reviews, control testing and compliance monitoring activities.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, system enhancements and control optimisation.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external service providers to ensure effective operation of financial crime controls and screening solutions.
- Support the development of junior team members and promote a strong culture of compliance and risk awareness across the business.
- Who we’re looking for
- 3-5 years' experience within Compliance, Financial Crime or Sanctions roles in the insurance or reinsurance.
- Strong understanding of UK, EU and US sanctions regimes and their practical application within a regulated business environment.
- Experience reviewing sanctions referrals and applying risk-based decision-making and regulatory judgement.
- Knowledge of broader financial crime disciplines, including anti-money laundering, anti-bribery and corruption, fraud and related regulatory requirements.
- Experience using sanctions screening systems and related compliance technologies.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes to deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulatory issues clearly and effectively.
- Confident stakeholder manager with the ability to influence, challenge and advise colleagues at all levels of the organisation.
- Experience supporting process improvements, change initiatives or control enhancement projects would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of the Lloyd's and London Market environment would be beneficial.
