Expense Accountant – Insurance (9–12 month FTC) | £70,000 | London | Hybrid – 3 days per week
Arthur is partnering with a leading specialty insurer looking to appoint an Expense Accountant on a 9–12 month fixed-term contract. Reporting to the Head of Expense Management, the role will provide additional support across expense accounting and Accounts Payable while the wider team focuses on key project activity. It will be a hands‑on position with responsibility for delivering accurate month‑end reporting, maintaining strong financial controls and resolving reconciliation issues.
Key responsibilities
- Support month‑end expense accounting, including accruals, prepayments and journals
- Ensure costs are recognised accurately and in the correct reporting period
- Prepare and review reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies
- Support Accounts Payable activity, payment runs and cash‑flow management
- Maintain effective controls across expense and AP processes
- Work closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers and outsourced providers
- Contribute to weekly and monthly reporting deliverables
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, data quality and reporting efficiency
Experience required
- Previous expense accounting or management accounting experience
- Strong month‑end experience, particularly accruals, prepayments, journals and reconciliations
- Insurance‑sector experience is essential; Lloyd’s or London Market exposure would be advantageous
- Experience working with ERP or EPM systems
- Oracle experience would be beneficial
- Confidence working independently and resolving accounting or data issues
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver against tight deadlines
The client’s initial budget is £70,000, although there may be flexibility for candidates with particularly relevant insurance expense accounting and systems experience.
