Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)

  • Chemical Regulation & Environmental Governance
  • Develop, maintain and continuously improve COSHH compliance across the business.
  • Maintain compliance with UK REACH, GB CLP and other applicable chemical legislation.
  • Prepare, review and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS), product classifications and regulatory documentation.
  • Support Environment Agency permit compliance and environmental reporting requirements.
  • Audit & Risk Management
  • Carry out compliance audits across blending, filling, warehouse and associated operations.
  • Produce and review risk assessments, ensuring suitable control measures are implemented and maintained.
  • Support and maintain ISO 14001 environmental management systems and associated compliance records.
  • Identify opportunities for continual improvement in compliance systems and processes.
  • Training & Culture
  • Deliver site inductions, compliance training and spill response awareness.
  • Provide practical regulatory guidance to operational teams.
  • Promote a positive, proactive compliance culture throughout the business.
  • Investigation & Reporting
  • Investigate compliance incidents, non-conformances, near misses and regulatory breaches using root cause analysis.
  • Monitor compliance performance and prepare reports for senior management.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, auditors and external stakeholders where required.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications & Experience will be considered where candidates can evidence the required technical competence and professional judgement.

  • Demonstrable experience producing, reviewing or maintaining Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and associated chemical regulatory documentation.
  • Working knowledge of GB CLP / GHS hazard classification and chemical hazard communication.
  • Practical understanding of UK REACH, or EU REACH with the ability to demonstrate an understanding of GB REACH requirements.
  • Experience producing COSHH assessments and chemical risk assessments.
  • Experience interpreting chemical legislation and translating regulatory requirements into practical operational controls.
  • Experience working within a regulated chemical environment (manufacturing, blending, laboratory, research or comparable industry).
  • Experience conducting technical investigations, root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to operational personnel, management and external stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or a related scientific discipline.
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate, IOSH qualification or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Experience using commercial SDS authoring software.
  • Experience of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Internal Auditor qualification and/or practical audit experience.
  • Experience of Environment Agency permitting.
  • Experience of UFI and Poison Centre Notification (PCN) submissions.
  • Experience presenting technical information to regulators, customers or senior management.

  • Full-time, on-site role based in Goldthorpe.
  • 37.5 working hours per week with occasional flexibility required.
