Job Description
Delighted to be working with one of the leading, specialty (re)insurers in the market, who are seeking to hire a Senior Counsel to lead their Underwriting legal function. The role will be an initial 12-14 month maternity contract, with the strong possibility of a permanent role at the end.
The role will report into the Group Head of Legal, and play a major role in drafting, negotiating and execution on key (re)insurance and underwriting transactions.
Core elements of the role include:
- Providing strategic legal advice and oversight on all underwriting-related transactions, including structured credit, asset finance, aviation finance and funded capital relief deals.
- Overseeing the drafting of key legal documentation, including policy wordings and supporting the underwriters on insurance coverage advice.
- Instructing external counsel on specialist transactional support where needed.
- Supporting the wider legal function and assisting on ad-hoc legal projects.
To be successful in this role, you must be:
- A qualified lawyer in England & Wales or equivalent jurisdiction.
- Ideally 5 years PQE and have (re)insurance experience, either from private practice and/or in-house.
- Experienced in working on key (re)insurance and structured finance transactions, with a clear track record of leading complex transactional work.
- Prior experience working in-house at an insurer is desirable.
- Strong inter-personal skills and ability to liaise with key stakeholders including underwriting, finance, claims and operations.
