Group Technical Accounting Manager (6-month FTC) £90,000–£100,000 + flex for the right profile London | Hybrid (3 days office)

This is a hands-on technical accounting role, brought in to support the Group Finance function through year-end reporting and ongoing acquisition activity.

The successful candidate must have deep, practical experience across:

  • M&A / acquisition accounting
  • Writing and defending technical accounting papers
  • Share-based payment accounting
  • Impairment reviews (goodwill & intangibles)

This is not a broad BAU finance role; it suits someone who lives and breathes UK GAAP technical accounting in acquisitive environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Accounting & Advisory
    • Lead on complex UK GAAP technical matters, including acquisitions, share-based payments, impairment reviews, and judgement-heavy areas
    • Draft clear, robust accounting position papers for auditors and senior stakeholders
    • Act as the technical "go-to" for the Group Financial Controller during reporting cycles
  • M&A & Acquisition Accounting (Core Requirement)
    • Ownership of purchase price accounting (PPA) including:
    • Day 1 balance sheet recognition
    • Policy alignment adjustments
    • Deferred and contingent consideration
    • Partner with auditors and advisors on acquisition accounting judgements
    • Support post-acquisition integration from an accounting and controls perspective
  • Share-Based Payments & Impairments
    • Work with external advisers on share scheme valuations
    • Prepare and review accounting entries for share-based payments and earn-outs
    • Lead goodwill and intangible impairment reviews, including documentation and audit defence
  • Statutory Reporting
    • Support production of UK & Jersey statutory accounts
    • Prepare papers for Audit Committee and Board approval
    • Liaise directly with external auditors on technical matters

Essential Experience (Non-Negotiable)

  • Strong, demonstrable M&A / acquisition accounting experience
  • Proven track record of writing technical accounting papers
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Share-based payments
  • Goodwill & impairment reviews
  • Deep UK GAAP knowledge (brokerage / financial services strongly preferred)
  • Comfortable operating autonomously in a fast-paced, acquisitive environment

Candidates with primarily financial control or BAU reporting backgrounds without technical paper-writing or M&A exposure are unlikely to be suitable.
