A leading Insurer client of mine, operating internationally, is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its high-performing commercial legal function. Reporting to a newly appointed General Counsel of extensive experience, this is a fantastic opportunity for a 4 year+ PQE Lawyer to gain some real exposure to interesting and exciting Insurance Legal work.

The role is a 12-month maternity cover position, with the real possibility of a permanent role at the end of the contract. You must be able to start within 1 month.

As Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Drafting and reviewing key Insurance & Non-Insurance agreements, including Binding Authority, TOBAs, Claims Handling, Supplier and Outsourcing contracts.
  • Providing day-to-day and ad-hoc legal advice to different Group entities.
  • Managing and adhering to regulatory requests and advice from the FCA, PRA and other key regulatory bodies.
  • Assisting in the drafting and development of policy wordings, including assisting on existing and new product development.
  • Building strong working relationships with key internal stakeholders, including Underwriting, Claims, Finance and Compliance.

To be successful in this role, you must be a UK qualified lawyer and have Insurance experience. Other important considerations include:

  • Experienced in drafting and negotiating insurance agreements.
  • Experience in implementing and understanding of Insurance regulation.
  • Be able to collaborate effectively across different functions and build holistic relationships.
  • Experienced in negotiating and drafting wider commercial agreements (IT, Procurement etc.).
  • In-house legal experience within an Insurance environment is preferred but not essential.

My client can offer the role on a day-rate contract or as a fixed salary to suit, they are very flexible on this. The role is a hybrid position, typically 2-3 days a week in London.
