Overview
As Legal Counsel, you will provide strategic legal guidance on high-stakes disputes, with a focus on employee competition and restrictive covenants. You will support Gallagher’s UK and EMEA businesses, helping leadership navigate risks and make informed decisions. You’ll work in a collaborative legal team, shaping responses to contentious matters and mentoring colleagues. Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on contentious matters with emphasis on restrictive covenants and employment terms
- Manage litigation and pre-action dispute resolution, especially in employee competition cases
- Draft correspondence to opposing parties and their counsel
- Instruct and oversee external counsel as appropriate
- Prepare management reports for Gallagher’s Boards and senior management
- Exercise proportionate and commercial judgment in risk-informed decisions
- Share knowledge through training and process enhancements to mitigate risk
- Build and maintain strong relationships with business units and senior leadership
Key requirements
- Qualified solicitor with High Court (England & Wales) litigation experience
- 5+ years PQE in private practice or in-house
- Experience handling litigation or pre-action matters related to restrictive covenants and team moves
- Knowledge of the insurance industry is helpful but not essential
- Strong drafting, analytical, and communication skills to translate complex issues into actionable advice
- Ability to build excellent relationships and gain trust of senior stakeholders
