Overview
As a UK Specialty Catastrophe Analyst, you will quantify catastrophe risk for client portfolios using vendor and Gallagher Re models to support risk-informed decisions. You’ll work on renewal modelling, contribute to analytical solutions, and help shape our views of risk across specialty classes. The role is client-facing, offering exposure to global portfolios and senior stakeholders, with mentoring responsibilities for junior analysts. You’ll join a collaborative team that translates analytics into actionable portfolio and underwriting insights, making an impact across clients and markets.

Responsibilities
- Quantify catastrophe risk for client portfolios using vendor and proprietary models
- Analyse client exposure data and portfolio structures to assess modelling suitability and identify gaps
- Contribute to development, refinement, and delivery of analytical service offerings with internal and external partners
- Engage with clients, reinsurers, brokers and actuaries on model interpretation, portfolio optimisation, and bespoke solutions
- Assess and communicate impact of vendor model updates on portfolio results and risk metrics
- Provide real-time event analysis and post-event reporting to support clients during catastrophes
- Mentor junior analysts and share knowledge to develop the team’s technical capabilities
Key requirements
- Degree in a numerate, scientific, or hazard-related discipline
- Experience in London or global (re)insurance markets with understanding of reinsurance and specialty classes
- Strong working knowledge of at least one major vendor catastrophe model (e.g., Moody’s, Verisk)
- Excellent understanding of peril science, model components and catastrophe risk concepts
- Ability to apply catastrophe modelling creatively to support risk assessment and decision-making
- Interest in developing bespoke technical and analytical solutions
- Excellent IT and analytical skills; programming experience (SQL, VBA, R) is advantageous
- Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders
