Arthur is delighted to be supporting a role within the UK actuarial function of a run-off (re)insurance group, supporting reserving and capital activity across a diverse portfolio of legacy business. The position works closely with the Head of Reserving and has extensive exposure to senior stakeholders across the business. It involves leading reserving exercises for selected classes, contributing to capital calculations, and providing actuarial input to support wider business initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the reserving process for allocated classes, potentially including both UK and US long-tail liabilities.
  • Support reserving across all lines of business and perform and review a range of reserving techniques, including non-standard approaches where required.
  • Work closely with the claims team to incorporate qualitative insight into reserving decisions.
  • Contribute to capital modelling activities, including Solvency II Standard Formula calculations and capital projections.
  • Provide actuarial support to business initiatives such as commutations, claims analytics and claims-led projects.
  • Peer review reserving work completed by other actuarial team members.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships across actuarial, claims, finance, risk and senior management teams.

Requirements

  • Qualified or part-qualified UK (or equivalent) GI actuary.
  • Experience applying a range of reserving techniques and explaining results to non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of legacy or run-off business is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Solvency II Standard Formula and/or internal capital models is advantageous.
