This position is suited to a highly motivated and driven individual looking to develop their career as an occupational hygienist. You will support business and service growth, along with technical delivery of occupational hygiene projects.

What the Role Entails

You will work from one of our offices (Manchester preferred) alongside experienced consultants and engineers and will be permitted to work from home on some occasions. In this instance, you will be provided with IT equipment and software/services required to facilitate your efficient home working. The position may require travel (including occasional overnight stays) in Ireland, the U.K. and overseas depending on project requirements. Company pool cars are available for business travel – a full U.K. or ROI driving licence with clean driver record is required as well as a valid passport and photo ID for air travel. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.K. and Republic of Ireland. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and position requirements.

Qualifications

As a minimum, the candidate will have successfully completed the BOHS W501 and W503 modules. Professional chartership(s) and membership of relevant bodies (e.g. Faculty of Occupational Hygiene, Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) would be viewed favourably. The following qualifications would also be viewed favourably: Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene; Successfully completion of the BOHS P601 module.

Experience and Skills

For the Consultant role, we would be happy to consider applicants with more than three years' experience in occupational hygiene practices, e.g. air monitoring for hazardous substances, conducting occupational noise assessments, carrying out thorough examinations and tests of local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems. For Senior and Principal roles, we would seek candidates with additional experience.

What we would like from you:

The ideal candidate should have demonstrable interest/experience in the items listed below:

  • Carrying out occupational hygiene assessments for chemical agents (e.g. airborne hazardous substances) and/or physical agents (e.g. noise, hand-arm vibration (HAV)); indoor air quality assessment; thorough examinations and tests of LEV systems.
  • Liaising with clients to ensure provision of representative samples using suitable sampling media and methods for relevant work equipment/areas.
  • Ability to communicate work being carried out and findings to individuals at different levels, including enforcement agencies.
  • Preparing high quality reports to include monitoring results, technical documents and specifications, risk assessments and method statements.
