The successful candidate will work as a member of our Engineering Group and will be involved in all aspects of professional input to flood risk and drainage projects for a wide variety of sectors and clients.
What the Role Entails
We are looking for a highly motivated and driven individual to join our team as a Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing technical reports in line with current local and national policy, industry guidance and providing client support. Assisting our senior consultants in providing high-quality flood risk assessment and drainage services to our clients. You will work from our Manchester and/or Liverpool office alongside experienced consultants and engineers and may be permitted to work from home on some occasions. In this instance, you will be provided with IT equipment and software/services required to facilitate your efficient home working. Some travel is involved for which company pool cars are available and for which a valid driving licence will be required. Occasionally travel by air will be required for which a valid passport is required. Occasional multi-day site visits will require overnight stays. Our clients are located worldwide but most of your work is likely to be in the UK for the foreseeable future.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess an Honours Degree or higher in civil or environmental engineering, geography, hydrology, or a related field. You will require a full U.K. driving licence with a clean driver record.
Experience
We would be happy to consider newly qualified applicants or applicants with one to two years’ experience in industry or in a consultancy role.

What we would like from you
The ideal candidate should have demonstrable interest/experience in one or more of the items listed below:
- 1-2 years’ experience in flood risk and drainage consultancy, with a good understanding of relevant regulatory and planning policy and processes.
- Experience of working on projects and liaising with both clients and statutory consultees.
- Writing flood risk assessments and/or technical reports for flood modelling studies.
- Producing Drainage Strategies including technical reporting and potentially design using Causeway, InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage or other relevant software.
- Hydraulic modelling of river, surface water, sewer drainage or coastal processes using TUFLOW or other relevant software to inform flood mitigation design.
- Relevant technical input to EIA screening/scoping reports and full EIA reports.
- GIS experience using software such as QGIS.
- Experience of using AutoCAD.
Key Responsibilities
You will be tasked with delivering high quality technical project work on time and in budget. Key responsibilities will include:
- Completing and assisting senior consultants in conducting flood risk assessments, drainage strategies and discipline adjacent works including site visits, data analysis, and report writing.
- Management and completion of Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies to support planning applications for our clients.
- Completion of Hydrology and Flood Risk Chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments.
- Completion of other flood risk and drainage projects for existing and new and emerging markets such as nutrient neutrality and ESG.
- Building relationships with clients and across other technical disciplines within Mabbett.
- Undertaking conceptual drainage calculations on appropriate software packages (MicroDrainage and/or Causeway Flow).
- Producing concept drainage plans in AutoCAD.
- Producing accurate flood risk GIS maps in QGIS or equivalent.
