Pelham House in Lewes is looking for a friendly and professional Night Host/ Porter to join our team in our Wedding & Events venue in the town centre of Lewes. Overseeing the safety and security of the whole premises overnight including our guests in our 29 Bedrooms. We are looking for a candidate to contribute to a welcoming environment in an amazing setting.

Key responsibilities

  • Security: conducting regular, methodical security checks of the premises, ensuring building is secure, monitoring CCTV systems, monitoring the entry and exit of people and vehicles, and ensuring safety by identifying and addressing any issues with noise.
  • Guest Service: providing a welcoming presence for guests, managing front reception areas, assisting guests with late check-ins, and handling additional ad-hoc requests.
  • Maintenance & cleanliness: tidying public areas (lobby, bar) and completing checklists to ensure the venue is presentable for morning staff.
  • Emergency response: acting as the primary responder for fire alarms, maintenance faults, or medical incidents, and knowing evacuation procedures.
  • Operational support: preparing for the next day by setting up breakfast/wedding tables, polishing cutlery/crockery, and general table set-up.

  • Vigilance & reliability: high level of trust, dependability, and attention to detail for solo working; this is a night shift.
  • Physical stamina: ability to walk, stand, and perform some light lifting during night hours.
