Short Brothers, a Boeing Company, is one of Northern Ireland’s largest aerospace manufacturers and a critical part of Boeing’s global supply chain. From our Belfast operations, we design and manufacture advanced aerostructures for some of the world’s leading aerospace and defence customers. With continued investment in people, facilities and programmes, Short Brothers is now seeking an experienced Production / Plant Manager to join its Belfast Operations leadership team and take responsibility for a large, complex manufacturing facility operating in a 24/7 environment.

The Role

Reporting into senior Operations leadership, you will manage and develop a sizeable operational team, delivering against safety, quality, delivery and cost objectives. This role has a strong emphasis on leadership, engagement and change. You will create clear direction, embed robust governance and drive a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence across the site. Working closely with Engineering, Quality and Supply Chain, you will ensure production plans are met while improving efficiency, capability and delivery performance in line with Shorts Brothers operational strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full accountability for Health, Safety and Environmental compliance
  • Leading and motivating Production teams to achieve operational targets
  • Driving continuous improvement and lean initiatives across the facility
  • Leading change programmes to improve efficiency, quality and delivery
  • Optimising labour, plant and asset utilisation to maximise productivity
  • Developing and executing site operating and improvement plans
  • Building leadership capability, succession and performance discipline
  • Ensuring effective KPI reporting, governance and accountability
  • Supporting the delivery of complex and innovative new contracts

Given the 24/7 nature of the operation, the role will occasionally require availability outside of standard working hours to support operational issues as they arise.

The Person

You will be a credible, hands-on manufacturing leader with experience operating at scale in a complex, high-performance environment. You will bring:

  • Proven experience leading large operational teams
  • A strong track record of driving change and continuous improvement
  • Sound understanding of production systems, financial controls and KPIs
  • The ability to engage, influence and lead at all levels
  • A calm, structured approach in a demanding operational setting
  • The credibility to contribute to senior leadership decision‑making

You will typically hold:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in an engineering or business discipline with at least five years’ relevant leadership experience; or
  • An HND (or equivalent) with at least eight years’ relevant leadership experience

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to take on a senior operational leadership role within one of Northern Ireland’s most significant advanced manufacturing organisations, offering scale, complexity and long‑term career development within Boeing’s global business. A highly competitive salary and benefits package is on offer, including pension, private family medical cover, bonus, generous holidays and flexible working patterns.
