Artemis Human Capital is pleased to be working with a well-established and busy legal practice seeking to appoint an experienced Legal Bookkeeper to take ownership of their day-to-day financial operations. This is a pivotal role within the firm, offering the opportunity to work closely with Partners and play a key role in maintaining financial compliance and supporting business performance.

The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing both client and office accounts in line with regulatory requirements, while ensuring smooth and accurate financial processes across the firm. Key duties will include:

  • Daily banking and processing of receipts and payments
  • Posting transactions and maintaining accurate client and office ledgers
  • Completing regular bank reconciliations and resolving discrepancies
  • Managing transfers between client and office accounts in compliance with regulations
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Monitoring balances and ensuring adherence to legal accounting rules
  • Producing monthly financial reports, including turnover and aged debt
  • Reporting to Partners on financial performance, including bad debt and credit control
  • Liaising with external accountants for year-end processes
  • Acting as a point of contact for case management system providers (ALB or similar)
  • Supporting compliance reporting to regulatory bodies and assisting with audits

The Person

We are keen to speak with candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Previous experience working as a Legal Bookkeeper within a law firm
  • Strong knowledge of legal accounting rules and regulatory requirements
  • Experience using legal accounts/case management systems
  • Proven ability to manage VAT returns and financial reporting
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Confidence in communicating financial information to senior stakeholders
